Inaccurate Statistics

This is an informational blog. The writer is a certified behavior analyst, and is not affiliated with any gender based groups. Researching domestic violence, we seek to enhance the lives of those exposed by domestic violence, by first uncovering the truth by which perceptions are created.

The past few months, I have been reading what other groups/organizations say their perceptions of domestic violence are based on. What is bothersome, and reason for a multitude of different views is, "The statistics say..." Statistics are not research and are misleading to those who view them as being factual.

What is included with these statistics which are produced by law enforcement agencies, and victim advocate groups?

  1. Reported incidents
  2. Number of arrests
  3. Multiple offenders

They do not include, false alegations, arresting the wrong agressor, or the under reporting incidents by both men and women. Researchers have proven, for every 1 female who does not report the abuse, between 7 and 9 men do not when in an abusive situation. If those numbers were included, the numbers which most groups go by would be substantially different.
